“I like words. Singel words. Difference in meaning. Proper nouns.
Nonsense. I like names. Your name. Words”

Halldór Ragnarrsson

Ard Bia Gallery presents an exhibition by the Icelandic artist Halldór Ragnarsson in association with Artisit? Halldór has recently graduated from the Icelandic Academy of
the Arts with a BA in fine arts. His exhibition “Names” is a continuation of a theme that runs through his artwork and that is his fascination with words. In his “A” exhibition he started to draw the dictionary and he drew every word starting with the letter A in the Icelandic dictionary and the outcome was 13 paintings and 3220 drawings.

With the exhibition “Names” Halldór is using want words that have in some sense no meaning at all - words that you can´t really relate and trace to a concrete source. For Halldór that is proper names (nouns). “You can read about what the Icelandic name Guðmundur means (hand of God) but you can´t really put a hold on the word
Guðmundur if you picture it in your mind. You know a person named Guðmundur than
you have that person in your mind. But then you meet another Guðmundur and have
him in mind next time you think about Guðmundur. And he´s maybe black? Or green?”.
