Legion at Ard Bia Gallery
September 30 – November 4 2006
Ard Bia Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Legion, an exhibition of new works by multi-media artist Ben Roosevelt. Drawing on current geopolitical anxieties and breakdowns, Legion portrays a population and environment under the stress of meta-terrorism, where distinctions collapse between battlefield and homeland, combat and politics, and friend and enemy. Without taking a moral stance, the works make the everyday world into a psychological landscape capable of breaking apart or coming together in unusual ways.
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Roosevelt has participated in exhibitions and site-specific events in the United States and Ireland. Current and recent projects include an upcoming group show at Bolm Studios in Austin, Texas, and contributions to the Vending Machine Project in the 2006 Dublin Fringe Festival. Roosevelt holds a Master’s degree in Theology from Vanderbilt University and recently completed a Master’s in Fine Art at the Burren College of Art. The artist also works as a curator and organiser; his project Interim was shortlisted in Ireland for the Allianz Business2Arts Awards, 2006.
All are welcome to the opening, which begins at 7 PM on Friday, 29 September, with the curator/artist Sally Timmons as opening speaker. The exhibition continues until November 4th.
