My current practice consists of pencil drawings on paper, both minimal and representational, with hard-edged facets of colour in enamel paint. My work investigates images gleaned from both iconic Modernist artists such as Donald Judd and Dan Flavin and other iconic representations of Modernism. My aim is to interrogate the modernist preoccupation with surface, line, form and function. I am looking at these elements as a major part of my preoccupation with the vocabulary of both modernism and it’s derivative minimalism. My interest is with the complex relationship between drawing and painting and the subjective mark, the human touch. My research process involves collection of images, from found cardboard boxes in random and accidental configurations to classic fonts and modernist iconic architecture.
