Those in the know in Galway city are enjoying something very different in a Saturday
market. Tucked away upstairs in Ard Bia, Nimmo's, under the Spanish Arch is The Long Walk Market, which strives to be more than just a market-place.
"It's more of a market-space" says co-founder Jennie O'Connell. " We have created a space for people to come and hang out and listen to some great music (we have a different d.j every two weeks) while they're browsing our great selection of stalls."

The stalls have all been hand-picked to ensure that what they're selling is different enough, and so that everything on the market is either artisan or vintage.
Unique to The Long Walk Market is the Special Guest Stall, a stall which changes every week, and a different artist's work is hung each week, too. "This gives people the opportunity to buy some great stuff not at gallery prices. Last week we featured photographs by Ruby Wallis and they flew out the door."
Aoibheann Mac Namara, owner of the bustling Ard Bia cafe and restaurant, has given the stall holders free reign to create something different. Customers can lounge on the sofas and drink coffee and eat Jess Murphy's spanikopitas made from chard and barrel-aged feta, whilst the stalls are really unique.
There are eight regular stalls, selling such things as antique oriental rugs, beautiful hand-made accessories, nostalgia-inspiring knitted products by Sonya Nolan, funky old-school kitchenalia, quirky hand-printed bags and mugs and Missy Bonker's re-styled vintage clothes. There is also great organic, free-range meat from Castlemine farm in Roscommon, and organic leaves from Steve Gould.
The Market is now in its fourth week and opens every Saturday from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. This weeks special guest stall-holder is Giusy, an Italian who makes beautifully tailored clothes, whilst on the wall will be some amazing trays from around the world.
